Lyrics
As it fell out all on one day, Diverus he held a feast
And he's invited all his friends and gentry of the best
As it fell out all on one day, Lazarus he was so poor
He came and he laid him down and down, even down by Diverus' door
So Lazarus laid him down and down, even down by Diverus' door
Some meat, some drink, brother Diverus, to bestow upon the poor
Thou art none of mine, brother Lazarus, lying begging by my door
No meat nor drink shall I give to thee, nor bestow upon the poor
So Lazarus laid him down and down, even down by Diverus' wall
Some meat, some drink, brother Diverus, or surely starve I shall
Thou art none of mine, brother Lazarus, lying begging by my wall
No meat nor drink shall I give to thee, so surely starve you shall
So Lazarus laid him down and down, even down by Diverus' gate
Some meat, some drink, brother Diverus, for Jesus Christ's sake
Thou art none of mine, brother Lazarus, lying begging by my gate
No meat nor drink shall I give to thee, not for Jesus Christ's sake
So Diverus sent out his merry-men all for to whip poor Lazarus away
They had not the power to whip one whip
But they threw their whips away
So Diverus sent out his hungry dogs for to bite poor Lazarus away
They had not the power to bite one bite
But they licked his wounds away
As it fell out all on one day, Lazarus sickened and died
There came two angels down from heaven, his soul thereto to guide
Rise up, rise up, brother Lazarus, and come along with me
There is a place reserved in heaven to sit on an angel's knee
As it fell out all on one day, Diverus sickened and died
There came two serpents up from hell, his soul thereto to guide
Rise up, rise up, brother Diverus, and come along with me
There is a place reserved in hell for to sit on a serpent's knee
