Skyscraper

The lyrics describe someone facing the end of a painful relationship or conflict. At first, the speaker feels hurt and powerless, watching things fall apart. Gradually, that hurt turns into determination: even after being damaged, the speaker chooses to remain standing and believes they can grow stronger.

The “crying” sky and teardrops make the speaker’s sadness feel like part of the surrounding world. Comparing the self to glass or paper suggests feeling fragile and easy to hurt. The skyscraper, by contrast, represents strength and height: rising “from the ground” means recovering after being brought low. Broken windows show that the speaker is still wounded, even while standing on their feet.

The song’s confidence does not mean the pain has vanished. The speaker is still affected by what happened, and the image of bleeding suggests deep emotional injury. The other person may be leaving, or may be trying to cause harm; the lyrics do not explain exactly what occurred. What is clear is the speaker’s refusal to be defined by the damage: resilience here means continuing upward while acknowledging that some parts remain broken.
