There I was, alone and waiting
For your promise to call
Knowing I'm just taking a chance
And then you call the next day
And you said you had to work late
You said that so many times before
You think that I'm a fool
And I'll do it over again
But I've got some news
I'm gonna do what I've got to do
I'm gonna be free, you better believe
That's my true promise to you
Broken promises, broken promises
I count the broken promises you made to me
Broken promises
Again, and again, and again
All my friends were telling me
But I just couldn't see
I thought I had found my true love
But what I found was that you only
Cared about yourself
You've been faking most of the time
I've tried to make things work
And I'll do it over again
But I guarantee it won't be with you and me
I'm gonna be strong
I'm gonna move on
That's my true promise to you
Broken promises, broken promises
I count the broken promises you made to me
Broken promises
Again, and again, and again
Oh, so many times before, baby
Broken promises, (oh broken)
That you made to me
I could not believe that's the way that it would be (to me, baby)
Broken promises
That you made to me
I could not believe, that's the way that it would be (oh, too many times)
(You, you, babe, you, oh, broken promises to me,)
Broken promises (to me, to me, to me, to me,)
I could not believe (to me, oh yeah)
Oh broken promises, baby
Oh, so many times before, you-
Broken promises
That you made to me (hey)
I could not believe that's the way that it would be (Oh, I can't believe)
Broken promises, (I can't believe)
That you made to me (oh baby)
I could not believe that's the way that it would be (oh broken)
Broken promises, (oh broken)
That you made to me (oh yeah)
I could not believe that's the way that it would be (Oh, all my dreams, baby)
(All broken)
