The lyrics present a speaker caught between a powerful attachment to a woman and a journey that seems to promise personal change. The opening feels mysterious and searching: the speaker hears drums, looks for old wisdom, and receives a message to hurry. The repeated promise that it will take a lot to separate him from her gives the song a strong sense of devotion, while the final lines suggest that some things they lacked may still be possible.

Several images make the journey feel larger than an ordinary trip. Moonlit wings and stars “guiding” the speaker toward salvation suggest hope or rescue, though salvation may be emotional rather than religious. The old man’s “long forgotten words or ancient melodies” represents knowledge the speaker hopes to recover. The wild dogs crying for company echo a feeling of loneliness, while the mountain rising above Olympus suggests something immense and enduring.

The lyrics leave the relationship between the journey and the woman open to interpretation. She may be the person the speaker is trying to reach, or she may represent a life he fears leaving behind. His wish to “cure” what is deep inside hints at inner distress, but the song does not explain its cause. The rain can be heard as a blessing, a sign of renewal, or simply a vivid part of the landscape in which this emotional struggle unfolds.
