Lyrics meaning
The lyrics present a speaker looking back on being bullied as a child. At first, he is frightened and tries to escape confrontation by making excuses. Later, after a severe attack, he imagines fighting back violently. The repeated chorus connects these experiences to the label โbrain damageโ: other people treat him as strange or impaired, while the songโs exaggerated voice turns that judgment into dark comedy.
Several images make the story feel like a horror film or comic-book fantasy. The opening medical scene, with electric shocks and a neck with bolts, suggests a monster being brought to life. The speakerโs brain falling out and being sewn back into his head pushes this grotesque imagery even further; it is not presented as a realistic event. The teacherโs choice to let the bully attack him also makes the school seem unsafe, while the speakerโs excuse about his appendix shows his frightened, desperate attempt to avoid a beating.
The lyrics mix real-seeming memories of humiliation and violence with absurd exaggeration, so the exact boundary between recollection and fantasy is unclear. The revenge may express anger and a wish to regain power, but it is not a simple celebration of violence: the speaker is also portrayed as vulnerable, isolated, and misunderstood. The chorus can sound both mocking and defiant, as if he is turning an insulting label into part of his public identity.
