Lyrics
I took a train to Kansas City
When I was just a boy
I took the train to Kansas City
Mmm hmm, when I was nothing but a boy
'Cause I had heard all about the rounders
And how those peoples jumped for joy
I met this girl down on the corner
And ooh wee, she sure looked fine
I met the girl down on the corner
And man, didn't that little girl sure look fine
Said, "Y'all come along with me, little brother
I'm gonna take you down to 18th and Vine"
And then everything that happened
Seemed like some kind of dream
After that everything that happened
Seemed like we're living in some kind of dream
Yeah, she took me to a world
Something like this young boy had never seen
You see, we went into a nightclub
That looked like some old railroad car
Mmm hmm, went into this nightclub
Seemed like some kind of old railroad car
And there's a big man serving drinks
And singing right there behind the bar
He sang a song called Cherry Red
Said Rolling Pete and he was California bound
He sang a song called Cherry Red
Rolling Pete, he said that he was California bound
But the one I most remember
Was a song 'bout a man named Patty Brown
Many years have passed and gone now
Yes, and my luck's been up and down
Many years have passed and gone now
And this little boy has been the big round world around
But I never will forget the night I heard Joe Turner
Sing 'bout me and Patty Brown
Me and Patty Brown
