Dolly Dagger

The lyrics portray Dolly Dagger as a powerful, dangerous woman whose attraction leaves others overwhelmed or defeated. The repeated warning that her love can make someone “stagger” gives the song a teasing, excited tone, but the later commands to watch out make the attraction sound risky too. The ending shifts into energetic repetition, emphasizing desire and performance more than a clear story.

Several images exaggerate Dolly’s power. Saying she “drinks the blood from a jagged edge” makes her seem vampiric and dangerous, while the broomsticks and other witches create a playful, supernatural picture. Her bull whip is described as long as a person’s life, suggesting both threat and control. “Turn you to a block of ice” is an idiom-like image for making someone feel stunned, powerless, or emotionally cold.

The lyrics mix admiration, fear, humor, and sexual bravado, so Dolly is not simply presented as a villain or a romantic ideal. The speaker seems fascinated by her force, even while warning others to escape. Some phrases, such as “burnt out Superman” and “Captain Karma,” are deliberately strange and may point to defeated or foolish rivals, but their exact meaning is unclear. Overall, Dolly can be read as a larger-than-life figure of desire and danger, rather than a realistic character.
