Lyrics
The captain looked out on a green grey shore
He said, "This is the place to land"
He took a quick look 'round then he sailed away
Never came back again
No, he never came back again
Eighteen years passed and more ships came
Filled with men in chains
They planted a flag for a governor king
It was the first Australian day
The first Australian day
Trees came down and towns were built
The natives were easily tamed
It was a hopeful place for a man to be
A land of opportunity
It was a land of opportunity
Well they crossed the mountains, sailed down south
Found some gold down there
People came a-rushin' from all over the world
Because they wanted to get their share
Some of us lived to tell the tale
Some of us didn't make it
And some of us think you find a place
You walk right in and take it
The captain looked out on a green grey shore
He said, "This is the place to land"
He took a quick look 'round then he sailed away
Never came back again
He never came back again
No, he never came back again
He never came back again
