Poison Prince

The speaker addresses someone who seems talented or fascinating but is also troubled and hard to understand. At first, she watches him closely, noticing the gap between the stories he tells and what his eyes seem to reveal. The repeated chorus shifts the focus to his confusion and decline, while the wish for an upbeat song offers a brief, shared escape. The mood mixes concern, frustration, and a desire to keep dancing despite life’s difficulties.

“Looking through his eyes” suggests trying to see the world from his point of view, though the mention of “lies” makes it unclear whether she trusts him. Calling him a “poison prince” combines charm with danger: he may be attractive or gifted, yet harmful to himself or others. His life being “like a maze” implies that he is lost in a complicated situation, while “knocking on heaven’s door” can suggest approaching death or simply being in serious trouble.

The lyrics do not explain exactly what has caused his dazed state or what “that slime” refers to, so these details remain open to interpretation. He may be giving in to a destructive influence, or the speaker may be using vivid, emotional language to describe someone who has lost hope. The upbeat song is not a solution; it represents the comfort of music and togetherness in the face of problems that cannot easily be fixed.
