Lyrics meaning

The singer describes falling deeply in love and feeling almost transported by the other personโ€™s affection. At first, the new relationship seems wonderful, and he gives his heart without knowing whether the love is truly secure. His happiness collapses when he sees the beloved looking at someone new. Even then, he admits he will keep loving them, despite their cool or distant treatment.

โ€œUp to heavenโ€ suggests the intense happiness of being held and kissed, rather than a literal journey. The โ€œfoolโ€™s paradiseโ€ is an imagined state of happiness: he feels safe and adored, but that comfort may rest on hopes rather than reality. Calling the belovedโ€™s love โ€œthe gem in my crownโ€ presents it as the most precious part of a life that seems to belong entirely to him. When he notices a possible new romance, that grand image โ€œcomes tumbling down.โ€

The lyrics leave some uncertainty about what the beloved actually feels. A glance at someone else may suggest waning interest, but it does not prove betrayal or the end of the relationship. The singerโ€™s own doubt appears early, when he wonders whether such new love can be trusted. His continued devotion may sound tender, self-deceiving, or both: he recognizes that he may be foolish, yet chooses to remain emotionally attached.
