Tilted

The speaker repeatedly insists that they are “actually good,” while also describing exhaustion, tears, and a sense of being different. This creates a tension between distress and self-acceptance: the confident refrain may be genuine reassurance, a performance for others, or both. The emotional movement is not a simple recovery; the speaker keeps returning to the same claim and to the feeling of being “tilted.”

“Fight sleep with ammonia” suggests an extreme attempt to stay awake, though it may be deliberately surreal rather than literal. “Tilted” can mean off balance or not quite straight, so “we’re tilted” may describe people who feel out of place or whose lives do not fit a usual pattern. The image of doing one’s face “with magic marker” sounds playful and makes self-presentation seem improvised, bold, or unconventional.

The lyrics also picture “weird children” pushed outside, which may suggest rejection by people who seem unusual or hard to categorize. Yet the speaker’s group appears together in this difference, not simply defeated by it. The French phrases add to the sense of a distinctive group voice, but their presence does not establish one fixed meaning. Overall, the song can be heard as an uneven celebration of being strange and finding one’s place, while leaving open how much the repeated positivity conceals pain.
