The “ivory mist” suggests a pale, hazy presence emerging from somewhere unreal, while the “crimson stain” on the woman’s lips hints at danger, perhaps blood. “Give yourself up to me” can mean surrendering emotionally, but in this context it may also suggest being taken over or drawn into another world. The repeated calls to “awaken” play with the uncertain boundary between sleep and waking.
