The lyrics portray a speaker seeking an intense night of drinking and escape. At first, he presents himself as powerful, reckless, and full of energy. As the song continues, the excitement sounds less like a one-time adventure and more like a habit: he knows he may “crash and burn,” yet says he never learns and cannot get enough. The mood is celebratory, but there is also a hint of danger and dissatisfaction.

The repeated comparisons to a freight train and an aeroplane suggest speed, force, and feeling out of control. Calling himself a “mean machine” extends this image: he imagines himself as an engine fueled by alcohol. “Crash and burn” can mean failing or coming to harm, while “bottoms up” is a casual expression urging someone to drink. The request to be floated home hints that the night’s drinking may leave him unable to get home on his own.

The speaker’s swagger may be playful exaggeration, so the lyrics need not be read as a literal account. Still, the repeated admissions that he cannot stop and “never learn” make the celebration uneasy. “Never to return” could express a desire to escape an unpleasant life, or simply dramatize the feeling of being swept away by the night.
