Spread your wings for New Orleans
Kentucky bluebird, fly away
And take a message to mother, message to mother
She sings each night in some cafe
In her search to find wealth and fame
I hear mother has gone and changed her name
ย
It's a year since she was here
Kentucky bluebird, fly away
And take a message to mother, oh, mother
Tell her I miss her more each day
As the train pulled out down the track
Mother, promise me that she'll soon be coming back
Oh, tell her how my heart just breaks in two
Since she journeyed far
And even though her dreams of fame fell through
But to me she'll always be a star
Yes, she will, yes, she will
And take a message to mother
Tell her to start home today
And if you find her please let her know
That rich and poor, Lord knows I'll always love her so
Tell her I love her, oh, mother, oh, mother
The kids are calling your name
I love you just the same
I'm down on bended knees
I'm begging you, mother, please
Please come home, mother
Mother, please come home
I'll never again do you wrong, baby
I'll always love you
And I would place no one up above you
Please bring her on home to me
Daddy can't live without you
