Co-Co

The lyrics present Co-Co as a joyful dancer who loves performing beneath the night sky. The crowd cheers for him, and the repeated chant gives the song a lively, celebratory feeling. As the night moves toward morning, the excitement seems to continue, suggesting that Co-Co’s dancing and the audience’s enthusiasm do not quickly fade.

Several images make the scene vivid. The “ring of fire” suggests a dramatic, daring performance, while the “silver water” and moonlight create a calmer, shining island setting around it. The drums “echoing” across the water imply that the music carries far beyond the immediate crowd. The repeated “Ho-chi-ka-ka-ho” sounds like a chant or rhythmic refrain rather than a phrase with a clear meaning in the lyrics.

The song can be read as a simple celebration of a performer who captivates his audience. Co-Co is called a star, which may mean he is especially talented or simply the center of attention. The ring of fire could be literal in the imagined performance, or a way to make his dancing seem exciting and spectacular. The lyrics offer little about Co-Co beyond his dancing, so the emphasis is less on his inner life than on movement, music, and shared excitement.
