'Twas the night before Christmas and down at the ranch
All the cowboys were hangin' down at the Long Branch
They were havin' a party, drinkin' whiskey and beer
Feelin' no pain as Christmas drew near
There was Bud and Jase and One-Eyed McCoy
And Jose and Billy, most all of the boys
They were down in the dumps, drinkin' Christmas away
'Cause the Long Branch had gotten no music today
The jukebox was broke and the band had gone south
Them lonesome old cowboys were down in the mouth
No Jingle Bells, Rudolph, or Silent Night
Just watchin' them there was a pitiful sight
When out on Main Street they heard quite a noise
They burst through those swingin' doors, all of the boys
There out in the street was the strangest of scenes
There was buses and semis and ten limousines
They pulled up and parked and began to unpack
Guitars, drums and fiddles and electronic racks
In all of ten minutes it was set up and done
The music had started, the fun had begun
There was Willie and Waylon and Asleep at the Wheel
ZZ Top, Jerry Jeff Walker, quite a big deal
Delbert sang Givin' It Up For Your Love
And then a shining bright light appeared from above
As the cowboys all hollered and whistled and cheered
On the stage a ghostly white light appeared
And there in the spotlight all playin' a song
Were Bob Wills, Tex Ritter and Stevie Ray Vaughn
Well they played Cowboy's Christmas and Stormy Weather too
With T-Bone, Buddy Holly and Janis Joplin beltin' the blues
And when they finally had hit their last note
The light went out and upwards they all floated
Well they packed it all up as quick as they came
And in a blink of an eye they'd all gone again
But we all heard 'em shout as they pulled out of sight
Merry Christmas y'all and to all a good night
