Walk This Way

The lyrics present a narrator remembering awkward teenage experiences and learning about flirting and sex. At first, he seems inexperienced and unsure; after advice from boys and encounters at a school dance, he becomes more confident. The repeated instruction to “walk this way, talk this way” makes attraction sound like something learned by copying another person’s style.

Several images use playful language to suggest sexual meanings without stating them directly. “Taking a big chance” at the dance means risking rejection by approaching someone. The nursery-rhyme phrase about “the kitty in the middle” is a joking double meaning, and “give me a kiss” points to physical intimacy. These lines mix ordinary school scenes with teasing adult innuendo.

The tone is comic and boastful, but the narrator’s memory may be exaggerated, and some references are deliberately vague.
