I used to almost be someone in this town
I used to be someone
Walkin' 'round these streets, feels foreign to my feet
'Cause the ground doesn't crack the same
And they paved over our names
That we etched into concrete
The summer, we were both lonely
And we found ourselves connected
So we cemented the friendship
And as I pass by your house
A stranger stares back at me
And a new facade, makes a liar out of my memory
You and I used to almost be someone in this town (I used to be someone)
Nothing changed and I'm a never was now (I could've been someone)
Used to almost be someone in this town (I used to be someone)
Nothing changed and I'm a never was now
Head to my old huts to try and feel less out of place
But try as they might, they just can't gentrify this ache
And down at the local, even the bar flies have found some place to be
So Dave at the tap pours one out
For this town and all its broken dreams
You and I, used to almost be someone in this town (I used to be someone)
Nothing changed and I'm a never was now (I could've been someone)
Used to almost be someone in this town (I used to be someone)
Nothing changed and I'm a never was now
I used to be someone
I could've been a bit wiser, done a little bit more
I used to be someone
I feel like a familiar ghost in the walls
Haunting this place I once called home
The streets and avenues remain (I could've been a bit wiser)
But the faces have all changed (done a little bit more)
I swear I used to belong
Those glory days have come and gone
Did I peak at 21? (I could've been a bit wiser)
I used to be someone! (Done a little bit more)
You and I, used to almost be someone in this town (I used to be someone)
Nothing changed and I'm a never was now (I could've been someone)
Used to almost be someone in this town (I used to be someone)
But nothing's changed, I'm a never-was
