Lyrics

Breaking up rocks on the chain gang Breaking rocks and serving my time Breaking rocks out there on the chain gang Cause I've been convicted of crime Hold it steady right there while I hit it There I reckon that ought-a get it Been working and working But I still get so terrible long to go I commit a crime Lord, of needing Crime of being hungry and poor Left the grocer store man bleeding When he caught me robbing his store Judge he said five years hard labour On the chain gang you're gonna go I heard the judge say five years of labour I heard my woman scream Lordy Lo Wanna see my sweet honey baby I wanna break this chain off and run Wanna lay down somewhere shady Lord, it sure is hot in the sun.
