Boys Keep Swinging

The lyrics portray boyhood as a time when the world seems to open doors: things fit, luck arrives, and life feels full of possibility. The repeated claim that boys “always work it out” sounds confident, but the song’s growing list of advantages also suggests that this confidence comes from being treated as naturally entitled to success.

Several images make that privilege feel effortless. “The clouds part” suggests obstacles disappearing, while “luck just kissed you hello” turns good fortune into something warmly personal. The references to wearing a uniform, being first in line, owning a home, and learning to drive point to social opportunities presented as ordinary rewards of being a boy. “Uncage the colours” and “unfurl the flag” evoke bold self-expression and public display.

The tone can be read in more than one way. On the surface, the chorus celebrates youthful freedom and self-belief; beneath it, the exaggerated certainty may be playful or critical, exposing how gender shapes expectations and access. The lyrics do not explain whether this confidence is meant to be admired or questioned, and that tension gives the song much of its bite.
