Hang In Long Enough

The lyrics encourage someone who feels stuck or discouraged to keep going. At first, they suggest that success or a desired opportunity is close; later, they acknowledge that the struggle can be exhausting and emotionally confusing. The repeated advice to “hang in long enough” turns persistence into the song’s central message.

Several expressions give this encouragement a practical, sometimes wry tone. “The writing’s on the wall” means that something is already clear or strongly signaled. “Find the key” suggests discovering what will open the way to a goal, while “reach out and touch” makes success sound close enough to grasp. The image of selling “the hole in your pocket” humorously suggests such extreme poverty that even an empty pocket seems like something to sell.

The song is hopeful, but not simply reassuring. It admits that someone may be pulled forward and then pushed back, and may feel like giving up. Its promise that persistence will lead to success is emphatic, though the lyrics do not say exactly what “doing it” means or guarantee that every goal is reachable. The message can be heard as both sincere motivation and a slightly sharp reminder that wanting everything may come at a cost.
