Go To Hell

The song warns that a life devoted to cruelty, wrongdoing, or selfish pleasure has serious consequences. Its repeated prediction of hell gives the lyrics a forceful, almost sermon-like tone. The focus widens from an individual who enjoys mischief, to someone living comfortably at others’ expense, and then to children and the stories of humanity and Satan. The mood is more admonishing than sorrowful, urging listeners to choose a better path.

“Living high and mighty” suggests behaving as if one is superior, while being “rich off the fat of the land” implies benefiting from plenty. The phrase “natural soul” may mean a person’s basic goodness or moral self, which the song cautions against losing. The apple and “tree of hate” reshape a familiar image of temptation: here, the fruit is associated not simply with disobedience but with hostility. Satan’s fall similarly presents troublemaking as leading to punishment.

The lyrics use religious language to make their warning vivid, but they do not spell out exactly what every kind of “sin” means. “Hell” could be understood literally as an afterlife punishment, or more broadly as the consequence of a harmful way of living. The repeated, emphatic refrain may express deep conviction, theatrical exaggeration, or both; the song leaves room for listeners to hear its warning in different ways.
