Lyrics

Since ere I was a little bitty thing I could not help myself tuggin' on them strings I tugged strings hard, I tugged strings long I tugged strings right, and I tugged them wrong I been shoutin' Gimme a little bit, gimme a little bit Gimme a little bit of that high livin' Gimme a little bit, gimme a little bit Gimme a little bit of that jubilee Gimme a little bit, gimme a little bit Gimme a little bit of that hell on wheels Just livin' like some corn-pone refugee I went to tuggin' on love, I went to tuggin' on hate Went to tuggin' on power, just a-temptin' my fate By suckin' on the tit of every woe sorrow brings I've 'bout lost my way just a-tuggin' on them strings Yes, herein lies the tale of the corn-pone refugee Don't I know that story well, my friends That sorry soul is me I been shoutin' Gimme a little bit, gimme a little bit Gimme a little bit of that high livin' Gimme a little bit, gimme a little bit Gimme a little bit of that jubilee Gimme a little bit, gimme a little bit Gimme a little bit of that hell on wheels Just livin' like some corn-pone refugee Oh mercy me, I have been playin' the fool Tuggin' on that devil's tail Like it was some kind of capricious jewel Just sleepin' off a drunk in my Cadillac I woke one night by the railroad track Of a freight train rumblin' down the line Boxcar, spackle, string and twine I jumped that train and commenced to pull it My arms grew heavy, my mind grew dull I tugged for nights, I tugged for days I tugged until the need to tug fell away Sometimes that's all a man can do to be set free Hear me no more, brothers, now no more, sisters Will I fritter my days away tuggin' on worthless things I don't hope, though I am blistering heat To forever be tuggin' on them godforsaken strings Gimme a little bit, gimme a little bit Gimme a little bit of that high livin' Gimme a little bit, gimme a little bit Gimme a little bit of that jubilee Gimme a little bit, gimme a little bit Gimme a little bit of that hell on wheels Just livin' like some corn-pone refugee Ain't livin' like no corn-pone refugee Ain't livin' like no corn-pone Ain't livin' like no corn-pone Ain't livin' like no dadgum corn-pone refugee Refugee Refugee
