Lyrics
My goodness we are going to be busy!
But don't you mind being a
mouse for the rest of your life?
It doesn't matter who you are or what you look like so long as
somebody loves you. Gran?
Yes, Luke?
How fast does a mouse's heart beat?
The heart of a mouse
That lovely little muscle in there
Beats nine beats a second
Even faster when you run
Scamper or trapeze through the air
So fast
They blur together like a hum
It's like a miracle
Your splendid speedy little drum
That's wonderful!
I think so too.
And Gran?
Yes Luke?
How long does a mouse live?
An ordinary mouse, maybe three years. But you are mouse-boy, that's very different.
The life of a mouse-boy
Is longer than the ordinary kind
Maybe nine years or so
But so long as we remember
To keep how long we've got in our mind
Then we've got time
To do anything we dream or dare
It's like a miracle
How life stretches out when it's shared
Gran?
Yes Luke?
Then in nine years' time
I will be a very old mouse
And you will be a very old grandmother
And soon after that
We'll both die together
That would be perfect.
As long as I'm with you
And I can feel your heartbeat
Next to mine
That sounds just fine.
I think so too my darling.
Let's get a taxi!
Where are we going?
To the station! We've got work to do.
I can't wait to get started!
Live every heartbeat that you've got
Get up!
Live every heartbeat that you've got
Get up!
Live every heartbeat that you've got
There's a rhythm in your heart telling you it's time to start
Get up!
Live every heartbeat that you've got
There's a drum inside of you telling you there's work to do
Get up!
Get up!
