Have A Cigar

The lyrics present a warm-sounding welcome that gradually feels less sincere. At first, the speaker promises fame and success, but the conversation turns toward albums, sales, and chart positions. The emotional shift suggests that the newcomer is being encouraged less for personal talent than for the money and attention they may bring.

Several images help create this effect. “Fly high” and “never gonna die” are exaggerated promises of success and lasting fame. “Riding the Gravy Train” is an idiom for enjoying easy money or benefits, and it makes the business deal sound comfortable for those already profiting. The question “which one’s Pink?” suggests that the speaker praises the band without even knowing who its members are, making the praise seem hollow.

The lyrics can be read as a satire of people who flatter musicians while treating them as products. The repeated invitations and claims of respect sound friendly on the surface, but the focus on selling records and working as a team reveals a more calculating attitude. Still, the speaker may represent a broader business culture rather than one specific person, and the lyrics leave open how much of the praise is meant to be sincere.
