Monsters In The Parasol

The lyrics create a strange, uneasy mood, but the repeated “oh well” makes the speaker sound oddly casual about it. The walls seem to close in, and people are described as warped or alien. The repeated line “she won’t grow” adds a feeling of being stuck, though the song does not explain who “she” is or what kind of growth is meant.

A parasol is an umbrella used for shade, so a “monster in your parasol” suggests something frightening hiding inside an ordinary object meant to protect you. “The walls are closing in” is a common expression for feeling trapped or under pressure. By contrast, “my mind is up here on another wave” may suggest that the speaker feels mentally elsewhere, disconnected from what is happening around them.

The images do not form a clear story, and their oddness may be part of the effect. The “monster” could represent a hidden problem or fear, while the “hole” in the parasol hints that protection is incomplete. These are possible readings, not definite explanations: the lyrics leave room for surreal humor, anxiety, or both.
