Ladies and gentlemen, the story you are about to see is true
The names have been changed to protect the innocent
Well, my name is Poet, and I'm known to be a warrior
Live in The Bridge, not too far from Astoria
Back off, punks, before I kill all of ya
Your rhymes are wack, 'cause you don't have the formula
P-O-E-T spells the Poet
And you know I don't go for no bullshit
Well, late one night, we was cruisin' in the Jeep
Blastin' the beats, crackin' the concrete
Streets were filled by the boomin' system
The police pulled us over, so we started to diss them
They was all in my face, then I got mad
So I told 5-0, "Take off the gun and the badge"
They was frontin', they didn't want none of this
I got pissed and balled up my fist
Hot Day said, "Poet, we don't have no time to waste"
I said, "You're right", so I punched the cop in his face
They led a chase, Hot Day was drivin'
And all I could hear was the sirens
Gettin' closer and closer, ooh!
They want me badder than they want that kid Ice Cube
We made a turn at the end of the block
And stopped, and started loadin' up the Glocks
At first, there was two cops, then it was seven
I didn't care, I had the MAC-11
As they approached us, we started lettin' off
Then the seven little pigs started jettin' off
They didn't have a choice, they couldn't hide
That's what happens when you fuck around on the darkside
The motherfuckin' darkside
Check it out
Now I'm on the block, chillin' in the park
Of course you know I'm on the side that's dark
5-0 Everywhere, so I changed my clothes
The man they want is right under their nose
Playin' the low pro, because the boy know
I got a beep on the beeper, so it's time to go
I'm walkin' to the phone, then Hot surprised me
Now I'm jumpin' in the black Maserati
On the way to the store to get the blunts
I had the funk, the MAC is in the trunk
Then I see that punk-ass cop that I punched
I said, "Hots, I'm gonna eat him for lunch"
He said, "Forget it, Poet, I'm gonna get him"
Next thing I know, Hots put two in him
And we was outta there with the quickness
While lookin' around for any witness
We made it uptown with the swiftness
Nobody wanna fuck around with this sickness
'Cause if they do, it's just plain suicide
Self-homicide, stay off the motherfuckin' darkside
The motherfuckin' darkside
ย
Now we uptown, eatin' in Copeland
Chump-ass niggas cold scopin'
They wanted beef, I was really, really hopin'
So I could start gettin' open
Then this little motherfucker with a bunch of gold teeth
Stood up and said, "Yeah, we want beef"
That's all he had to say, I bust his ass
Fucked him up good and threw him through the glass
His boys started flexin', I said, "So what?"
Hots pulled out the nine, shot 'em all up
Once again, yo, we had to breeze
This time, we left behind mega casualties
We stopped at a red light, still laughin'
We didn't care, 'cause we're fuckin' assassins
Right around five, we arrived in The Bridge
Just to find out that the punk cop lives
And he knows our faces
A positive ID, and they're lookin' for traces
Now we gotta go do him without a doubt
Go to the hospital and wipe him out
We went to the hospital on a rainy night
Now we in a motherfuckin' gunfight
With the cops, they had him under guard
But I still managed to pull out his cord
Now we're jettin' down the stairs, shots ringin' in our ears
Those fuckin' cops want theirs
But they can't catch us, boy, we're too slick
Made a turn and then hit the exit
Yo, me and Hots was audi
We changed clothes with the bums in the alley
Now we on the subway, we couldn't lose
Went to the hotel and watched it all on the news
Five men shot, one thrown through a window
Cops killed under guard in the hospital
They couldn't figure it out, how we survived
That's because they never been on the darkside
The motherfuckin' darkside
