Lyrics meaning

The speaker remembers a past love through a song that the other person used to like. Although he tries to be with new people, these relationships feel repetitive and emotionally distant. The song’s mood moves between longing and weariness: he hopes the memories will fade, but admits that he is still affected by them.

“Fallen leaves” suggest autumn and passing time, but they also bring the absent person back to mind. The phrase “dead loves” does not mean the relationships are literally alive or dead; it describes love that has ended but still causes pain. Saying these loves “never stop dying” suggests that grief keeps returning rather than ending all at once.

The speaker imagines a future when the song and leaves no longer trigger memories, and then the old loves will finally be finished with their dying. Yet the repeated refrain makes that resolution feel uncertain: remembering the song keeps the loss present even as he wishes to forget. The lyrics may describe lingering heartbreak, but they also leave open whether the speaker is truly becoming indifferent or only trying to persuade himself that he will.
