Change it one day for a crown
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross
An emblem of suffering and shame
Oh, but I love that old cross where the dearest and best
By a world of lost sinners was slain
So, I'll cherish the old rugged cross (rugged cross)
'Til my trophies at last I lay down
I'm gon' cling to the old rugged cross
And I'll exchange it one day for my crown
Oh, that old rugged cross, so despised by the world
Has a wonderful attraction, Lord for me
For the dear Lamb of God, left His glorious home above
To bear it on dark Calvary
So, I'll cherish the old rugged cross (rugged cross)
'Til my trophies at last I lay down
I'm gon' cling to the old rugged cross
And I'll exchange it one day, and get my crown
So, I'll cherish the old rugged cross (rugged cross)
'Til my trophies at last I lay down
You know I'm gonna cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it one day to get my crown
