Lyrics
In the heat of the summer
On the east side of town
Oh, oh, funky tomato
There's a brand new dance going around
I said oh, oh, it's the funky tomato
Everywhere you look, everywhere you go
Everybody doin' that funky tomato
Put your hands in the air
Do not resist arrest
Shake your derriere
From east to west
Like you know east is best
Now put your hands out wide
Try to touch your nose
'Cause if you can't do that
You can't drive home
But now you've got it
Look at you go
Now you're doin' that funky tomato
Forget the watusi
Forget the boogaloo
The shag and the shimmy
And the shuffle too
Forget about the monkey
And the mashed potato
Everybody's doin' that funky tomato
Put your hands in the air
Do not resist arrest
Wave your derriere
From east to west
Like you know east is best
Now throw your hands out wide
And touch your nose
'Cause if you can't do that
You can't drive home
But now you've got it
Look at you go
Now you're doin' that funky tomato
Now you're doin' that funky tomato
Forget about the monkey
And the mashed potato
Oh, if ever there was a dance
That was created to rhyme with other dances
It was the funky tomato
