Lyrics meaning

The lyrics present sex as a huge personal achievement, and the speakers celebrate it with loud, repetitive confidence. They say the experience felt wonderful and changed their lives, turning an ordinary event into something worth announcing to everyone. As the song continues, however, their excitement becomes increasingly absurd, and the celebration starts to sound less like sincere romance and more like a comic performance of bragging.

Several images make the humor clear. Calling sex the โ€œbest thirty secondsโ€ sharply undercuts the grand claims of a life-changing experience. The repeated idea that they will never return to their โ€œnot-having-sex waysโ€ treats sex like a dramatic before-and-after transformation. The song also lists uncomfortable detailsโ€”such as the woman watching her watch or putting a bag over someoneโ€™s headโ€”and insists they โ€œstill count.โ€ This repetition turns a familiar boast into a deliberately ridiculous refrain.

The lyrics can be heard as mocking men who treat sex as proof of status and speak about women as if they are awarding a favor. The narratorโ€™s surprise that anyone wanted him, and his exaggerated gratitude, reveal insecurity beneath the boasting. At the same time, some lines sound deliberately unpleasant rather than celebratory, making the songโ€™s attitude intentionally uneasy. The humor may come from that tension: it imitates a triumphant anthem while exposing how shallow and self-centered its version of triumph can be.
