Barbados

The song follows a speaker leaving rainy London for Barbados, where he expects to reunite with his girlfriend. At first, the trip sounds like an escape from an unsatisfying routine: he says he does not want to be a bus driver forever and is tired of seeing Brixton at night. The repeated, excited chorus then builds a feeling of relief and anticipation, ending with the plane’s arrival in warm, sunny weather.

The airline announcements make the journey feel like a real flight, while “climbing high” also suggests rising away from everyday troubles. Rain going “down the drain” paints a dreary London scene and may hint that the speaker wants to leave its gloom behind. “Back to the palm trees” presents Barbados as a welcoming, relaxing place; calling it “home again” suggests a personal sense of belonging, though the lyrics do not explain why.

The song’s simple contrast between a wet city and a sunny island makes the destination seem almost like an ideal escape. The speaker is also motivated by love, but the repeated claim that his girlfriend loves him may express confidence, hope, or a desire for reassurance. The cheerful flight announcements add humor and give the song a light, playful tone rather than making it a detailed story about his relationship or future.
