Lyrics meaning

The speaker is ending a relationship with someone they believe has lied to them. At first, the tone is angry and defiant; later, the speaker sounds more resolved to leave. They admit they may have been fooled or hurt, but insist they are not to blame for the relationship’s failure.

Several phrases express rejection in a blunt, informal way. “Flip the bird” means make an insulting hand gesture, showing open contempt. Calling oneself a “wages slave” suggests being trapped in a life of work and dependence, while “hire another act” compares the speaker to a performer who can simply be replaced. These images make the breakup sound like a refusal to be controlled or treated as someone’s possession.

The lyrics present the speaker’s side strongly, so their claims may not tell the whole story. The phrase “two people in disguise” could mean that both partners hid their true selves, or that they became strangers to each other. Likewise, “if you broke my heart” leaves the hurt partly uncertain: the speaker seems to acknowledge pain while protecting their pride. The repeated claim that it is “not my crime” may be justified self-defense, but it can also sound like a way to avoid feeling responsible.
