Lyrics meaning

The speaker looks back on a relationship that once felt happy and permanent but ended in confusion and hurt. Although the two people seem to have tried to move on, a call saying “I miss you” reopens the speaker’s feelings. The repeated wish not to leave suggests they are caught between wanting closeness and fearing that returning will make things worse.

Several images make the loss feel present. The “haunted” house suggests that memories of the relationship linger in familiar places, almost as if the past still occupies the home. “Everywhere I go leads me back to you” is not necessarily literal: it expresses how ordinary places or experiences keep bringing the former partner to mind. The mention of fighting and breaking dishes recalls a relationship that included intense conflict as well as love.

The speaker’s apology may show regret, but it is unclear exactly what they are sorry for, or whether they believe the relationship can be repaired. “Forever” now sounds painful because the promise did not last, while “I still love you” sits beside the recognition that things did not happen as hoped. The lyrics therefore hold two feelings at once: longing for the person and awareness that returning may repeat an unhappy pattern.
