Lyrics meaning

The song describes the sadness of leaving a beloved seaside place as summer ends. Holidays are packed away, the beach empties, and the speaker must return by train to a rainy city. Yet the mood is not hopeless: she expects to come back when summer returns. Her feelings move from loss and loneliness toward patience and quiet hope.

The abandoned beach and its shells and crustaceans make the end of summer feel like a loss shared by nature itself. The wind, called the mistral, will run without the sailboats and will be missed in the speaker’s tousled hair; this gives the weather a personal, almost companion-like role. The sun is also described as a close friend, though now it can only shine from far away.

The speaker says she will keep her sadness “like a friend,” suggesting she does not need to show it to others or make it disappear at once. The playful idea that the sun thinks they are “a little angry” at being apart softens the sadness with humor. The ending promises a return and a seaside celebration, but it does not erase the present grief: hope and longing exist together.
