Stillborn

The speaker describes a deep emotional numbness and a long, painful wait for someone. At first, the language sounds like a wish to escape or forget the past. “Stillborn” usually refers to a baby that dies before or during birth. Here it is used metaphorically: the speaker feels as if something inside him never came to life, or has become unable to feel. Calling himself “a shell of a man” suggests a person who is physically present but feels empty inside. “Blind me” and “erase what was” express a desire to avoid painful memories, rather than describing literal blindness or erasure.
