Corn liquor, corn liquor down in the holler
Bust you a jug for a buck or a quarter
Greenback, greenback, a greenback dollar
Golly won't you come and I ain't a-gonna call her
Hoecake, hoecake, hoecake fritters
Sweet milk glasses and minted butter
ย
Johnny throwed an oak ball hittin' at Davey
Broke out a window glass hittin' mama's gravy
Davey, Davey, poor little Davis
Got choked down on chicken and gravy
Hoecake, hoecake, hoecake fritters
I ain't gonna work just for hoecake fritters
ย
Out in the west where the hills gets bigger
I used to dance and I cut quite a figure
Aw, sit down, a figure is a figure
Banker got my place and I got the chigger
Hoecake, hoecake, hoecake fritters
I ain't gonna work just for hoecake fritters
ย
I ain't no coward, well I ain't no quitter
But I can't live on hoecake fritters
I got wives and kids and I got quite a litter
Starved me slow to death eatin' hoecake fritters
Hoecake, hoecake, hoecake fritters
Dying like flies eatin' hoecake fritters
