Marjorine

The speaker is addressing Marjorine, who has gone away or become unreachable. He asks where she has been and why she left, while saying that people want her back. The repeated promise to look for her in town and call her name at home suggests longing and a hope of reunion. The mood is affectionate but also puzzled and slightly worried.

“Searching for me” may suggest that Marjorine is wandering or looking for someone, though the lyrics do not explain why. Seeing her “face in the crowd” can mean the speaker keeps imagining or noticing her among strangers because he misses her. “Life is too short” sounds like a warning to make a choice or return before time passes, but “you’ll just get caught” makes the warning’s exact meaning unclear.

The song gives few details about who Marjorine is or what happened, so she could be a lover, friend, or someone else important to the speaker. Even the line about not getting “in the sack” might be playful, frustrated, or a blunt reference to intimacy. Rather than telling a complete story, the lyrics circle around absence: the speaker’s repeated calls make his attachment clear, while Marjorine’s reasons for leaving remain unknown.
