Release Me

The speaker is asking a partner to end their relationship. He says his love has moved elsewhere and believes staying together would bring unhappiness. The repeated plea grows more urgent: he presents separation not simply as a wish, but as the only way for both people to avoid a painful life and for him to begin again.

The contrast between “her lips are warm” and “yours are cold” suggests renewed passion beside a relationship that has lost its warmth. Calling continued life together “a sin” is an emphatic way of saying it would be deeply wrong or wasteful, rather than necessarily a religious claim. “Cling to me” means holding on to the relationship even though the speaker says his feelings have changed.

The plea sounds decisive, but it also carries tension. The speaker insists that leaving is best for both of them, yet he focuses on his own new love and future, so the listener might question whether he is being considerate or mainly seeking freedom without guilt.
