Lyrics
Do you love me?
Was originally intended for The Temptations
As original member Otis Williams recalls
Barry couldn't find it, you know
He looked all over for us that day
And we were in church listening at
Some harmony from the spiritual groups
And so The Contours was there
And, you know, they got the tune
And it was a hit
Motown's next star was a young man originally from Washington D.C
Who began his professional singing career
With a popular group from the 50's
The Moonglows
I started out in gospel
My father, of course, was a minister
And I, of course, sang in the church
And I played drums for most of the acts in the early 60's
Because I needed money
And I always thought I wanted to be a singer
I still want to be a great singer or become that
Marvin tells how he connected with Berry Gordy Jr
And went on to record his first hit, "Stubborn Kinda Fella"
That's an interesting thing because
I had written a jazz kind of thing on that
And Berry Gordy was in the control room at the time
And he was listening to it and he
And then he said, "Well, now, let's change a few chords"
And we changed a few chords
And he said, "Well, now it sounds pop, man
Now I think we can get some record sales out of it"
Say yeah, yeah, yeah
Say yeah, yeah, yeah
One more time, baby
Say yeah, yeah, yeah
Say yeah, yeah, yeah
I try to put my arms around you
All because I wanna hold you tight
But every time I reach for you, baby
Try to kiss you, you just jump clean out of sight
Oh, I've got news for you
Baby, now I've made plans for two
I guess I'm just a stubborn kinda fella
Got my mind made up to love you
Woah
Say yeah, yeah, yeah
Say yeah, yeah, yeah
Woah, woah, woah, ooh, woah
I'm gonna love you in every way
I'm gonna love you in every way
With other girls I've wanted, I've made it just a moment
With you I shall remain
Now I know you've heard about me, bad things about me
Baby, please let me explain
Oh, I have kissed a few
Tell you a few have kissed me, too
I guess I'm just a stubborn kinda fella
Got my mind made up to love you
Woah, everybody sing
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Woah, everybody sing
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Uh-huh-huh, sing now, everybody
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Woah, I'm just a stubborn kinda fella
Got my mind made up to love you
