Lyrics
I dreamed I lived a thousand years ago
Where the Naknek River opens to the sea
Woke up one morning, smelled the wind
Winter coming on for you and me
The sky was wide as my old open heart
The tundra dark as far as I could see
Along the shore not a footprint in the sand
Winter coming on for you and me
I saw the rivers rich with spawning fish
Songbirds flying through the air so clean
But I knew the autumn could not last
Winter coming on for you and me
The woods were filled with lynx, wolf, and bear
But wolverine and the fox ran free
They hunted us, we hunted them
Winter coming on for you and me
So in my dream I left that lonesome place
I walked for miles till I could finally see
Smoke from your village rising fast
Winter coming on for you and me
I dreamed the salmon drying in the racks
Smoke from the fire blew back over me
Enough food to last till spring and fall
Winter coming on for you and me
Then we lay down together on the ground
Close in your arms I fell into a sleep
A vision entered to my mind
Winter coming on for you and me
In my dream I saw a thousand men
Tearing the earth, cutting down the trees
The ocean bleeding and the river on fire
Winter coming on for you and me
Now I walk alone along the riverbank
Feel the sickness washing over me
What I dreamed may truly come to pass
Winter coming on
Winter coming on
Winter coming on for you and me
