Auberge

The lyrics describe a journey toward a place called “Auberge,” while the speaker feels driven by forces that are difficult to control. The mood is restless and wary: physical sensations suggest an inner urge, and the encounters along the way make the speaker distrustful. By the end, the repeated destination sounds less like a simple location than the one remaining choice or goal.

Several images give the journey a threatening quality. The “hard fast train” and “road to gain” suggest rapid movement toward something desirable, but the body’s “mind of its own” hints that the speaker may not be fully in charge. The silent figure’s shiny cloak and hidden dagger combine an attractive appearance with concealed danger. The warning that someone who “thinks with a dagger” will end up begging for mercy implies that aggression can lead to defeat.

The lyrics do not explain exactly what Auberge represents, or whether the threatening figure is a real person, a symbol, or part of the speaker’s imagination. “The naked truth” and “the light” sound like moments of clarity, yet the destination remains mysterious. The song can be heard as a tense inner journey in which desire, suspicion, and the hope of reaching a final refuge exist together.
