Symptom of the Universe

The speaker seems to offer someone a love that lasts beyond ordinary time. The lyrics move from a vast, almost futuristic journey toward a more personal image: love can be seen in another person’s eyes. The mood is intense and hopeful, though the strange, dramatic pictures keep the meaning open rather than telling a clear story.

“Through the centuries” and “supersonic years” suggest moving across enormous stretches of time, perhaps faster than ordinary life allows. The “silver womb” can suggest return, safety, or rebirth, while the “stolen tomb” hints at a past loss or confinement. These images make the journey feel both cosmic and personal. “A symptom of the universe” is an unusual metaphor: a symptom is normally a sign of illness, but here it may mean that love is a sign or expression of something larger.

The lyrics do not explain who the “enemy” is, why the speaker’s tomb was “stolen,” or what the “seven hundred beauties” represent. They may be dreamlike images rather than details in a literal plot. The repeated promise of undying love gives the song an emotional center, but its cosmic language leaves room for listeners to understand that love as romantic, spiritual, or simply a powerful connection.
