Lyrics

The house I grew up in Was your basic east coast two story house The second story You'd pretty much call it your attic But me and my brothers' rooms were up there So during the summer Needless to say It was like trying to sleep in hell The Massachusetts humidity just Sneaking into your room And sticking to you like glue So we didn't move Me and my brothers would lay on our beds Like mannequins But I was a little luckier than my brothers 'Cause at least I had this huge picture window It was kind of like a TV screen to the world And outside the window there was a bunch of trees And a telephone pole with a street light So I could really see everything And we lived near an air force base And the light, the one that spins around Oh it would reach into our neighborhood It would whip its way through the leaves and the trees And create all these like really weird wicked shapes I'd lay there and the sounds of the night would come in my room Cars would come and go Kids playing It was just great sounds Innocent sounds You'd hear dogs barking from two neighborhoods over And I'd hear the older kids sometimes in the summer nights Screeching their tires as they drove home drunk But it brought in every good noise The winter It was cold up there 'cause we only had one radiator I could see the snow fall in the street light And I would just watch this white blanket of goodness just cover all Almost like starting over There's gonna be no school tomorrow Now I don't see anything out my window 'Cause what's outside it I don't want to see anymore Nothing worth seeing out there I don't hear anything good Sometimes I just like to paint the window black There are so many familiar sounds though The night doesn't even seem complete without them It's never ending One bleeding into and bringing on the next Always starts with the same familiar sound Which always brings another familiar sound Brings on more familiar sounds I can't sleep now So now I get up and go in the other room Now the TV has become my window to the world
