Looking in the mirror it's getting clearer
Everytime that I walk by, that I walk by
This motel room's seen so much doom and gloom
If these walls could talk they'd probably cry, oh they'd cry
Well
I'm sorry to say that leaving LA
Was not my decision
I know Tennessee was glad to see me
But who do I think I'm kidding
I'm down on my luck and if I was a truck
Hell, I'd be stuck on empty
If there was ever a day
To hit that old highway
Today's as good as any
I need to get up and fix me a cup
Of that old sorry coffee
Go check out and find out about
What these blues have cost me
I'll go into town and I'll see who's around
Get the Grand Slam down at Denny's
If there was ever a day
For some country gourmet
Today's as good as any
Today's as good as any
But I wouldn't bet a penny
That it's any better than most
And there's gonna be some bitchin'
If that junkie in the kitchen
Nods off and burns my toast
Again
Well I wonder if I should maybe stop by
I know you're gonna miss me plenty
If there was ever a day for a roll in the hay
Today's as good as any
ย
I've been messing around and playing the clown
I hope that I've learned my lesson
With every mile I'm finding a smile
And I'm trying to count my blessings
But if I'm making good time
When I hit the state line
I'm gonna roll one long and skinny
If there was ever a day
To hit that old highway
Today's as good as any
If there was ever a day
To hit that old highway
Today's as good as any
