Dark Wings

The speaker describes discovering unexpected strength during a dangerous fight. At first, they do not understand why they were chosen or what they can do. As threatening forces close in, the song turns into a plea for someone they care about to stay alive. The repeated words “live life, breathe” make the feeling urgent and personal: courage is mixed with fear and hope.

“Dark wings” and “shadows” suggest danger approaching, perhaps enemies or a more general sense of death and despair. The contrast between night and day marks a sudden change: after a soul is taken, brightness appears. Calling this brightness “rays of life” suggests that the person’s presence or memory gives the others energy and courage. “You haven’t made your peace” can mean the person still has things unresolved, or simply that they are not ready to die.

The lyrics leave the exact events unclear. The speaker may be describing a literal battle, a supernatural struggle, or an emotional crisis expressed through dramatic images. The repeated refrain makes the threat feel ongoing, while the image of light suggests that even in loss, someone’s life can strengthen those who remain. The song holds grief and defiance together rather than offering a simple, certain victory.
