Wasp / Behind the Wall of Sleep / Bassically / N.I.B.

The lyrics move from fear and paralysis toward awakening, then shift into a seductive voice offering love and power. At first, the speaker describes a threatening “Wall of Sleep” that traps or weakens someone. When it breaks, light enters and the person wakes. The later verses sound warm and promising at first, but their emotional direction changes when the speaker reveals himself as Lucifer.

The flower’s “deadly petals” suggest beauty hiding danger: something attractive can still cause harm. The “Wall of Sleep” may represent fear, guilt, or a state of helplessness; its collapse marks release or a return to awareness. “Under my power” makes the lover’s promises sound less like equal affection and more like control. The offer of the sun, moon, and stars is an extravagant way of promising everything.

The lyrics leave room for more than one reading. The first section could be a nightmare, a metaphor for emotional suffering, or simply a dark fantasy, while the awakening suggests hope. In the second section, the speaker’s declaration of identity makes the apparent love seem manipulative, but the song does not explain whether the addressed person accepts the offer or recognizes the danger. The contrast between tenderness and menace is central to its effect.
