Lyrics meaning
The lyrics describe someone facing the end of a love relationship and trying to continue living. At first, the speaker seems caught in memories and grief; the love was brief, and pleas for help have gone unheard. The repeated wish to “live or survive” suggests that life may feel less like joy than a difficult effort. By the end, the speaker still wants to go on, whether alone or with someone else.
Several images make the loss feel concrete. The past is like a “film” replaying in the eyes, suggesting memories that return without invitation. “Faded flowers” and a future already turned into the past imply that the relationship has withered and that its hoped-for future is gone. The phrase “a deaf person doesn’t hear what they want” points to failed communication: someone may not listen, or may only hear what they choose to hear.
The song balances private heartbreak with awareness of other people’s suffering. The speaker recognizes that others may be worse off, yet says that, in the moment of separation, the world’s misery feels small beside a goodbye. This need not mean the speaker is indifferent to others; it shows how grief can narrow attention. “Live or survive” also remains open: it may express hope, exhaustion, or both at once.
