Four Wheel Drive

The speaker sounds frustrated and unsettled by someone whose behavior has become widely discussed. Rumors are affecting the speaker, who cannot stop thinking about this person. The second verse adds impatience and exhaustion: the speaker is delayed, feels mistreated, and wonders whether anything will improve. The repeated chorus creates a steady, energetic refrain, but it does not resolve the tension.

Several expressions are figurative. “Your name is all over the town” suggests that people everywhere are talking about the person, not that their name is literally written across town. “You stand on the tip of my tongue” usually means someone or something is almost being said or remembered; here, paired with “I can’t get you out of my head,” it suggests persistent thoughts. “Standing at the back of the line” may mean being made to wait or feeling overlooked.

The chorus’s “side by side” suggests closeness or moving together, while “four wheel drive” evokes a vehicle built to keep moving through difficult conditions. That image may contrast with the speaker’s troubles, or simply provide a catchy refrain; the lyrics do not make its meaning certain. Likewise, the complaints could describe a troubled relationship, frustration with another person, or a more playful jumble of phrases. The song keeps that ambiguity rather than explaining the situation.
