Breathe

The lyrics move between gentle advice and a warning about endless striving. At first, the speaker urges someone to breathe, care, and choose their own direction. The mood then becomes more uneasy: after one task is finished, another begins, and a life spent chasing success may end too soon.

“Choose your own ground” suggests finding a path or place that feels right for you. “Run, rabbit, run” makes the person sound like a frightened animal, always rushing away from danger or pressure. The image of digging another hole after finishing one task implies a cycle of work with no real rest. Later, riding a wave suggests that success or excitement can carry someone forward, but it may also be hard to control.

The lyrics can be read as advice to notice and value the life you have, rather than living only for work or achievement. Yet the opening also accepts that life includes both joy and sadness, and it does not simply tell the listener to avoid effort. The “wave” may represent opportunity as much as pressure; the warning is that pursuing it without balance can become harmful.
